Hello all! Continuing the catch-up posts from last week, I have a Technique Tuesday card to share today! This one is showcasing the Greenhouse Society subscription stamp set for March and it’s a lovely flower stem called Carnation Friends.

To make this card I used a technique I love that I have not done for a long while – one of the very first stamping techniques I was taught years ago in the late 90’s – coloring the stamp with waterbased colored markers!
I used a combination of Tombow and Tim Holtz Distress markers on watercolor paper. Using the MISTI makes this technique a bit easier than it was 20 years ago, because you can color one small section at a time and then watercolor it before moving on to another section.
Using three different shades of green markers, I colored the leaves and stems, then used a wet paint brush to color in the shapes, drawing color from the outlines.
Then I colored the blooms on the stamp with a couple of different shades of red/orange and painted those outlines.
For the background colors, I smeared the markers onto an acrylic palette so that I could add a bit of water and pick up the pigment with a paint brush and paint on a muted colored background. When everything was dry, I added paint speckles in the same colors I’d used for coloring.
I selected three of the assortment of sentiments included in the stamp set and stamped them with Versamark ink and heat set with silver embossing powder.
I die cut the painted card panel with a stitched rectangle die and mounted it on a subtly patterned plaid paper, then adhered both to a folded card base.
