Technique Tuesday Nancy & Nick the Narwhals Card

Hi, hello! Today I’m going back into the archives to bring you a card that I made using the April Animal House stamp and die set from Technique Tuesday.

Nancy and Nick the Narwhals is especially delightful because as well as they usual puny sentiments are a few that are universally suitable, such as “I’m so glad you exist” and Hope your day is as unique as you are” and “a friend like you is rare”. Sure, they’re perfect for a card with a magical Narwhal on it, but they’re equally perfect for any other occasion and card as well.

I began this card by stamping the images in the Narwhal stamp set with Versafine Onyx black ink onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock, coloring them with Arteza Real Brush Pens and die cutting them with the coordinating dies. (I don’t know what it is about Technique Tuesday’s dies but I am never unhappy with the way they die cut!?)

Next, I completely watercolor washed a card panel of watercolor paper. When it was dry, I stamped the sentiment from the same narwhal set and heat set it with silver embossing powder. Why silver? It just seemed more magical. Then I added some ink splatters to the whole panel.

I painted in the open letters in the greeting with Arteza brush pens blending two colors top to bottom. Then I used the Papertrey Ink Waves Die to die cut three layers of blue cardstock which I stacked and adhered together.

The final step was to tuck the Narwhal in among the waves and adhere it to the watercolor card panel. I added the fish and shell using strong liquid glue, because adhering to textured watercolor cardstock can be tricky without good strong glue. Lastly, I added some clear bubble dots and this card is finished!
