Altenew Build-A-Flower: Poppy Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello, hi!  We’re bringing you this month’s Build-A-Flower: Poppy release blog hop today!  I can’t always fit the monthly Build-a-Flower project into my schedule as much as I love every month’s designs, but when I saw the divine Poppy designs, I just couldn’t NOT!  You should be arriving from the blog of Virginia Lu and if you’ve missed any stops along the way you can begin the hop at the Altenew Card Blog.

The BAF-Poppy stamp set includes a 2-layer set of two blooms and outline stamps for each of the blooms plus a stem with leaves and a couple of small complimentary outline flowers.  This time I tried something different.  Usually I’ll stamp the solid image in a lighter color of an ink set and choose one of the darker shades for the detail image.

This time though, I wanted to achieve a much softer, subtle look, so I used the very palest of three different color groups for the solid stamp, but then I used the same ink for the detail stamp.  Because I was stamping in my MISTI, I could re-ink several times to get a darker impression.  For the card above I used Sea Glass, Arctic and Soft Lilac.

For the pink card I experimented with more than three shades of pinks, but the colors I preferred in the end were Blush, Rose Quartz and Frosty Pink.

To accomplish the polka-dot background, I stamped each bloom a few times on masking paper and cut the images out.  I have the matching dies for this stamp set, but I wanted a closer cut, one without the “halo” around the stamped images so that the dots would stamp very close to the edges of the flowers.  Then I covered each of my stamped blooms with the masking paper and stamped all over the card panel with the Dainty Swiss Dots background stamp in black ink.

After removing the masking paper I stamped the outlines on the blooms.  Next, I trimmed a strip out of the lower or upper portion of the stamped card panel, wide enough to reveal the sentiment stamped below on the coordinating colored card stock.  I used 2 of the 3 lovely sentiment stamps in the set and stamped them with the MISTI again because the card stock is textured and I wanted to be sure to get a good impression.

I adhered a thin strip of black card stock in the opening to visually weight the sentiment, and I popped up the stamped card panel with foam tape adhesive.

As always with Altenew blog hops there are prizes.  Altenew is giving away a $30 gift certificate to 5 lucky winners! Please leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog for a chance to win. Five winners will be announced on the Card Blog on Dec 9, 2018.  I am also giving away a $20 gift certificate to one commenter on this post.  I will announce the winner by Dec 6, 2018.
