Hi there! I’m back with another Technique Tuesday project to share with you. This time I’m showcasing the stamp set from the August Greenhouse Society release, called Lotus.
I will come straight out an say it. When I saw the name Lotus and the image on the stamp set, I realized I do not know what a Lotus flower looks like! I wasn’t even sure where they grow?!
In the process of doing some research, (I learned that they grow in China and India) I found this picture and I couldn’t NOT try and replicate it for my card! On my card today I’ve ignored the fact that the lower “bloom” is actually a leaf because I wanted more pink on my card. I’ll be sharing another card soon where I’ve followed the rules, even though breaking them is sometimes more fun!
I stamped the image using Versamark ink and white embossing powder to heat set. Then I painted the flowers, stems and background with Mijello Mission Gold watercolor paints. I’ve said it before, I have a hard time with keeping my hues light. This ended up darker than I wanted, so I guess I just need to keep practicing! Not a bad way to spend an hour or two!
Once the flowers and background were painted and dry, I stamped the sentiment from the Lotus stamp set with Versamark ink and heat set with white embossing powder. Then I flicked on some paint speckles using the same colors I’d painted with. You can see where some of the speckles landed on the flowers and I tried to lift them off without complete success. I decided just to let that be part of this card’s character!
Rather than distract from the simplicity of the flowers, I simply added a few Pretty Pink Posh sparkling clear sequins. I trimmed the card panel by 1/8″ on every side and mounted it to a cream colored cardstock card base.
The Greenhouse Society is one of three different stamp and die subscription plans you can join, ensuring a beautiful new stamp set in your mailbox each month at a reduced price! You can check it out here.
Thank you for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!
