Technique Tuesday Animal House Snake Card

Hey, hello! I’m back with the second Technique Tuesday Animal House Card for the September Chameleon and Friends stamps and dies release! Today’s card uses the snake image from the stamp set as well as an image from another Technique Tuesday stamp set called Umpteenth Birthday Stamp Set.

For my card today, I began by stamping the images onto Neenah Solar White cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored them with Copic markers before die cutting them with the coordinating dies.

For the balloons, I covered the strings on the original stamp (because they, all three, hang straight down and I wanted them to all come to a point) with washi tape before inking up the stamp, then removed the tape so I could stamp only the balloons themselves. Then I hand drew my own strings coming down to a point and added the little bow at the bottom. There aren’t coordinating dies for the Birthday stamps (and they wouldn’t have worked for my re-drawn image anyway) so I hand cut the balloons out.

For the background of the card, I first die cut the stitched rectangle opening from an A2 sized white cardstock card panel. Then I ran it through the Sizzix machine again with a stitched woodgrain die from Lawn Fawn.

I covered the back of the stitched woodgrain card panel with foam tape and mounted it to a card base, after first covering the back of the rectangle opening with a piece of patterned paper from my stash. I thought about inking the background instead, but I am such a lover of patterned paper that I went that direction again instead.

Rather than mess with bitty pieces of foam tape (just wasn’t in the mood) I mounted the snake and tree branch with three extra layers of die cut card stock glued together. Just nipped off the end of the branch where it overlaps the stitched card panel. Then I glued the balloons so they look like they’re tied to the top branch of the tree limb. I stamped the sentiment from the Chameleon and Friend stamp set with Versamark ink onto black cardstock and heat embossed with white embossing powder.
