Mother’s Day is coming soon, so I made a card using the Mom’s Spring Flowers stamp set. When I opened the box of products sent to me, this stamp set immediately flew to the top of my favorites list and I knew I wanted to give it a little extra attention with some no-line watercoloring!

I stamped the image onto watercolor paper using the palest of pale Distress inks – Old Paper. I chose it because of it’s water-reactive properties and so that if any outlines remained, they wouldn’t stand out.

I can’t really give you any particular painting tips – as I’m usually just feeling my way myself, but I can tell you that the color of paint I used on the petals was one particular color – Daniel Smith Moonglow – and all the other shades of the petals were that color mixed with other paint colors – blue, black, purple and even a little orange on the warm toned petals.

I re-emphasized some outlines with a tiny paint brush and a dark color of paint, and with black paint to define the flower petals. I used a fine tip black pen to add in the stamen details.

To add some additional detail, once the paint and splatters were dry, I laid the Fanfare Stencil over the card front and blended the very palest of ink shades over parts of the background, going over top of the leaves and petals in some places. I stamped the Mother’s Day greeting from the same stamp set with embossing ink and heat set with Platinum embossing powder.

Finally, I die cut the shape with the Heffy Doodle Imperial Stitched Rectangle Dies (which weren’t the exact right size for this 5″x 7″ card, so I die cut different portions of the outline in separate passes).

Thanks for stopping by today! Your next stop on the hop is Yoonsun Hur’s blog.
