If you’re looking for The Greetery Release post, click here. But first check out what Altenew is releasing today too!
Whew, long title right?? That’s because this is a fantastic release with a lot of amazing new products to show you! Welcome to the February Altenew release blog hop! You’ve probably arrived here from the Altenew Card Blog, but if you missed that stop, be sure to hop back and see the complete list of new products there. I am only showcasing a couple of many new items but you can find the complete shopping page here.
The main thing I’m excited about with this release is the 24 set of watercolor paints that coordinate with the complete ink color line! They can beautifully supplement the first set of watercolor paints previously released, but they also make a lovely stand alone set.
The first card is a sample of four of the colors in the new palette. I began by stamping a variety of stamps from the Thank You Builder stamp set onto watercolor paper and heat embossing with gold embossing powder.
Then I painted a different color over each word, letting it blend and dry as it liked. (Whenever you need some inspiration for color schemes, Pinterest is a sure source and will trade you pages of color combinations for merely typing that phrase into the search bar!)
I added paint splatters once the paint swashes were dry, trimmed the card panel to reveal a multicolored mat behind and let this card be complete with that.
Card number two is similar to the first in terms of it being very basic slashes of color over top stamped, heat embossed images.
As you can see I took no care whatsoever to paint in the shapes. I used flat brushes, 3/8″ and 1/2″ wide, and very randomly painted over general areas, and then adding some lighter swatches of paint outside the image.
The floral image is an Altenew/Simon Says Stamp collaboration, Dainty Sprig Stamp Set from Stamptember a year or two back, and the sentiment is from the Thank You Builder Set.
Up next are a couple of cards made with the Leaf Canopy stamp set. I stamped on watercolor paper and heat embossed with silver embossing powder.
One card I painted with the yellow, orange and red shades – no mixing of colors, just variation in light to dark of each color through the addition of water. I used a sentiment from the Bold Bunch stamp set, splattered more of the same paint colors after the leaves were dry, and trimmed the card panel to let the silver paper mat show.
The second variation of this card is painted in blue, green and grey and once again, is made up of pure, unmixed paint shades. The sentiment for this card is from the Sentiment Strips Stamp Set.
I kinda loved the combination of these shades of blues, greys and green so I carried on with them.
This card is a simple one, painted to just enjoy the pure color shades in this new palette. I used the Charming Doodles Stamp Set and stamped a few of the images in a grid, adding some dots and stripes here and there. I used watercolor immune ink – Versafine Onyx Black ink, and a fine tipped Sharpie marker to add those details.
I painted loose patches of color over each stamped image using a variety of the colors in the 24 Pan set, and once they were dry, splattered more with the Lava color of paint. The sentiment is from the Label Love stamp set.
This card is stamped with embossing ink onto watercolor paper and heat embossed with silver embossing powder. I used the Pattern Play Diamond stamp set, along with the Hello and Hugs stamp and die sets to create the sentiment.
This time I did a little blending of colors between the shaded areas, but the mixes are minimal. I tried to show the gradation of color from dark to light with the addition of water in each of the color sections.
Finally, we’re moving on to a stamp set from this release! (But I still couldn’t leave the watercolors behind entirely!)
I used the Exotic Garden Stamp Set to stamp the floral bouquet. Because I wanted to show you how well the paints are made to coordinate with the ink sets, I used the Desert Night ink to stamp the image onto watercolor paper and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I did that to protect against the color bleeding when I applied water, as the inks are waterbased.
I die cut the stamped, embossed image with the coordinating die and then cut it right down the middle to give me two parts of the image. I love that the two sides are a different as they are – it feels more versatile because of that!
I then used the Cool Summer Night shade of the watercolor palette to paint stripes on two watercolor card panels. I used the same paint to add some shading and definition to the stamped image as well.
I added sentiments in between the painted stripes using the same Desert Night Ink and adhered the die cut florals to the striped panels. “Praying for you” is from the Sentiment Strips Stamp Set and “thinking of you my friend” is from the Hello and Hugs Stamp Set. I also added some enamel dots from the Cool Summer Nights collection.
Whew! That was a lot! I can’t say enough about this watercolor palette! It will be an easy grab when I want a full compliment of colors in a smallish tin to take on the road.
