Altenew August 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hey, hi! Welcome back to another Altenew blog hop! Today we’re sharing so much creativity from the August release and you should have arrived here from the inspiring Laura Bassen’s blog, but if not, click back to the Altenew Card Blog where it all begins.

I have 4 cards to share today, made with a combination of 3 different stamp sets; Antique Roses stamp set, Just Because Builder stamp set and Dot Art stamp set.

For the two cards above, I created two (mostly) single layer stamped cards with the gorgeous Antique Roses stamp set. I love all of Altenew’s layering stamps, but this is my new personal favorite! I’m old enough to have distinct memories of grandmas with curtains made of this style of print!

I started by stamping the full flower stamp layer of each of the two blooms onto masking paper and cutting them out. You don’t actually have to do that – there is a stencil/mask for this set, but I didn’t have it.

I stamped the larger bloom first, using Blush, Rouge, Crimson and Velvet inks for the layers, then covered it with the paper mask and stamped the yellow bloom with Buttercream, Mango Smoothie, Warm Sunshine, Caramel Toffee inks. Then I covered that bloom with it’s mask and stamped all the leaves.

I used the matching word stamps for the “just because” sentiment from the Just Because Builder stamp set and stamped them with Obsidian Pigment ink. Then I cut a strip of coordinating green check patterned paper and a narrower strip of black and white striped paper from the Black and White Essential paper pack and adhered them to the top of the card panel. I added some black enamel dots to finish off this card.

For the 2nd card, I proceeded the very same way as outlined above, this time using Frosty Pink, Cotton Candy, Coral Berry and Ruby Red inks with Peach Perfect, Pink Pearl, Coral Bliss and Heart Beat inks for the smaller bloom. All of the leaves are stamped with the Green Fields family of inks.

This time I stamped the sentiment, again with matching word fonts, with clear embossing ink onto black card stock and heat embossed with white embossing powder before cutting it into a strip and adhering it with a piece of foam tape beneath.

Once more, a strip of black and white diagonal striped paper and some enamel dots complete this card.

Next up are two cards (alike but different) made with the Dot Art stamp set. What a unique stamp set this one is, with both a modern and traditional vibe! So fun!

I used one of the two dotted leafy images in the set, stamping it twice to create a clean and simple botanical card. To further adhere to the CAS/clean and simple aesthetic, I chose a color palette of kraft, black and white.

I stamped the sentiment, also from the Dot Art stamp set with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. The dotted leafy bough is stamped with Obsidian black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

I trimmed each side of the kraft cardstock card panel by 1/8th” and mounted it on a kraft card base whose edges I had colored with a black Tombow marker. I used a waterbased marker to achieve the black outline because it doesn’t seep through the paper and become visible on the back side like an alcohol-based marker does and eliminates the need for an extra layer of colored card stock for a mat.

The last card showcases the fun, “mod” kind of design you can create with this stamp set. It has 20 different images that can be combined in an endless array of arrangements – the sky and your imagination is the limit!

This card is a true one-layer card, stamped directly onto the front of a kraft cardstock card base. I used Obsidian black ink for the black stamping, then left it plain, but then I used clear embossing ink and white embossing powder for all of the white stamped images.

I used a “happy birthday” sentiment from another of my Altenew stamp sets and stamped it with the same Obsidian black ink. I really love the versatility of this stamp set and can see myself reaching for it often for quick, clean, basic and/or masculine cards.
