This month, the Altenew Paint-A-Flower subscription set is this Lotus flower underwater scene. I chose to treat it as a very simple and straightforward coloring project, stamping with Obsidian Pigment ink onto watercolor paper and heat setting with clear embossing powder to provide outlines with slight ridges that hold and contain the watercolor paints.
Undoubtedly there are more creative ways to use this stamp set, and you’ll see lots of inspiration on the hop today, but sometimes I just like to pull out the paint palettes and not get any more complicated than that! I used the Altenew 24 Pan paint palette and the 36 Pan paints because I like the combination of colors between the two sets.
Because I embossed the stamp outlines, I could do a wet on wet style of painting more easily. I paint each area with clean water then drop in color, with the deepest intensity in the shadows, and letting the water wick the color and lighten the shade as it travels towards the edges.
I stamped a greeting from the Lotus stamp set, trimmed the painted image slightly smaller than A2 and matted it with a coordinating shade of colored cardstock before adhering everything to a folded card base.
