My first card today is made with the Fairy Tale Florals stamp set. It’s an outline set with layers of cross-hatching stamps to suggest shading and could be stamped in different colors to suggest flower shades. But my love for outline images runs deep and I opted to simply paint in the flowers.

I chose a color palette that isn’t one I often gravitate to, but one I find very pretty when I see it elsewhere. Jewel tones, is what I mean. And I just opened up both the 24 pan Watercolor Paint set and the 36 pan watercolor paint set and went a little crazy with the color!

I decided once dry, that the tones were a little more vivid than I was intentionally going for, but I solved that dilemma pretty quickly by adhering a sheet of lightweight vellum paper overtop. The spots behind the greeting die cut and the sequins made great locations to use liquid glue to adhere the vellum to the painted card panel without it showing too obviously. And the result is nicely subdued color shades.

I combined two of the sentiment stamps in the Fairy Tale Florals stamp set, with a “thanks” die cut from the Fancy Thanks die set, cutting twice, once from light blue card stock and a second time from black cardstock. I glued the two layers together with the top layer veeeerrry slightly askew from the black layer to give the effect of a slight shadow. I stamped the greeting on the vellum and heat set with black embossing powder. Then I added some irridescent sequins that pick up the colors of the paint beneath them.

My next projects are made using the Tall Tale stamp and die set. These images were pure pleasure to work with and I pulled out the Artist Markers again to do some alcohol-based coloring!

I started by stamping the horizontally oriented bookshelf image, three times, stacked above each other, dividing the stamp in thirds and stamping the right, middle and left side of the image on a narrow strip of cardstock. The cardstock strip was cut to just over 2″ (2 1/8″) (5.3 cm).

I used Altenew Artist markers to color the books and potted plants. Once finished, I matted the stamped and colored strips with coordinating colors of cardstock and went to YouTube School to learn how to make some tassels out of embroidery thread for the top.

I love the selection of sentiments included in the Tall Tales stamp set that work for bookmarks, book plate and cards!

I also love, that besides the long shelf of books, the stamp set includes images like the stack of books, an open book, a pair of reading glasses and a girl with her nose buried deep in a book!

I stamped the girl and the stack of books images onto masking paper and fussy cut them in order to build the scene on the card front. I started by stamping the girl first, then masked her and stamped the stacks of books behind her. Then I colored the scene with more of the same Artist Markers as I used on the bookmarks above.

I added the sentiment once the coloring was complete, and finished the card off with just two strips of patterned paper along the bottom.
