Hello, hi! Glad to have you back again! Today I have a couple of cards that I made with the Spellbinders October Small Die of the Month kit called Fall Leaves.
The kit actually has a couple of larger dies that cut leafy corners for making an ornate corner-block card, but that’s not so much my style, so I really only used the word dies – Thankful and Grateful (there’s also Blessed) and two of the separate leaf dies.
The basic idea for both cards is the same, only the specific supplies are different. For the blue striped card above, I die cut an opening with a Oblong Hexagon die from The Stamp Market.
I die cut the leaves from all of the specialty papers I have on hand (my “stock” here at the lake is limited), such as mirror gold cardstock, glitter gold, glitter aqua and glitter green cardstock and some copper sheen and dull gold sheen cardstock. (No relation to Charlie or Martin).
I die cut the “thankful” word from copper cardstock and combined it with a sentiment strip from The Greetery, heat embossed with copper embossing powder. I assembled the shaker part of the card in the regular manner, not having to take special care with sealing off the shaker window because I wasn’t using any glitter or micro-beads that could shake out.
I added a few of the leftover leaves to the outside of the shaker window for embellishment, wrapped the vellum sentiment strip around the card panel and adhered the die cut greeting over top of the clear acetate window.
For this card I used the patterned paper on the background so that it only shows on the edges and behind the shaker window. I die cut more leaves, this time cutting them only from the mirror gold cardstock and the dull gold-shimmer cardstock because I felt like those colors coordinated nicely with the pink/red gingham paper. (All of the specialty papers used for die cutting the leaves are from Michael’s Crafts).
I used the Large Stitched Maple die to cut out the leaf shape from the card front and built up a foam tape buffer on the back side to contain the loose leaves.
The “grateful” greeting is die cut from mirror gold cardstock, the “for you” sentiment is from the FSJourney stamp set called Mini Greetings. I eyeballed and hand cut the miniature tag to finish the Grateful sentiment.
Fall is well underway now, and that makes this the perfect time to send someone a note to let them know how you feel! Although really, there’s no season that’s not a perfect time to do that!
