Hi friends, I’m delighted to be joining the Altenew Blog Hop today to share with you the newest in the Paint-A-Flower subscription release – the Paeonia Japonica! Also being released today, is the 4th set of Watercolor Brush Markers – Autumn Festival. You should be arriving here from the Altenew Card Blog, but if not, just click back there for the start of the hop.
I did a partial stamping/coloring technique for this card, stamping the entire floral bouquet coming in from the edge of the card, and then freehand drawing a loose rectangle in the center of the card.
Because I wanted to use the new Watercolor Brush Markers for this card, I stamped with Obsidian Pigment Ink onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock because it has a surface to the paper that allows blending and shading with liquid watercolors.
After free handing the pen line around the card, I set about to (generally) only color inside the rectangle area. I mixed Sea Forest with Just Green on a watercolor palette and used a wet paint brush to pick up that pigment for coloring the leaves. I laid the color down at the shadowed parts of the leaves and used a clean wet paint brush to draw out the color to the lighter edges.
I wanted the blooms to be white – a tricky color to achieve – except by painting only the shadows of the petals with diluted Winter Fog in the Autumn Festival set. The berries are painted with Tree Bark, and though the “suggested line” of the rectangle runs through them, I opted to paint in most of the berries.
Then I filled in the background with Yellow Ochre, blending the color lighter to the outer edges. I stamped a greeting from the PAF: Paeonia Japonica set overlapping the lower leaves and the hand-drawn outline. Finally, I added some paint speckles after the painted card panel was fully dry.
As always, there are prizes! To celebrate this release, Altenew is giving away a $30 gift certificate to 5 lucky winners! Please leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog for a chance to win. They will also draw a winner to receive a $15 gift certificate from the comments left on each designer’s blog on the blog hop list below. All winners will be announced on the Altenew Winners Page on July 31, 2020.
And that’s not all! I have an additional Paint-A-Flower: Paeonia Japonica Stamp Set to give away. I will draw an additional name from the comments left on the corresponding INSTAGRAM post to receive this set.
