Hello, hi! It’s time to share another Spellbinder’s Small-Die-of-the-Month-subscription project with two LOVE cards. I guess that must mean we’re right on time for the month of love-related paper crafting that’s coming up, yes?
The Small Die of the Month club offering this month is not even small! It’s a gorgeous frame of flowers and leaves surrounding the word “LOVE” that you can die cut and pile on together with the background, or use separately on their own – as I’ve done on my two cards.
For my first card, I die cut the entire floral/background shape from watercolor paper. I also die cut several more pieces with additional dies included in the kit; all leaves, flowers, hearts to layer onto or add to the base layer.
In a very random and messy fashion, I watercolor painted the entire shape with shades, both warm and cool, of green paint then set it aside to dry. Next, I painted the little bitty pieces (hearts and flowers) with shades of pink, yellow, and red and let those dry.
While the watercolored die cuts were drying, I die cut 3 more layers of the four letters from white card stock and glued them in a stack. I adhered those letters to the green floral background die cut, and added all the flowers and hearts next. I die cut the word “you” using the Small Die of the Month from Dec, 2019, the one made up entirely of sentiment words! It was perfect! I paint-splattered an A2 sized card panel to coordinate with the painted die cut, then trimmed it smaller than the card front and adhered it to a coordinating colored card base. I completed the card by adhering the assembled die cut to the card panel and let the painted flowers and hearts be all the embellishment that was necessary.
For my second card, I die cut the L, V and E of the design from watercolor paper again, and painted them with a mix of red, yellow and pink and letting the color blend and dry on it’s own. I painted more of the small pieces die cut from watercolor paper, the leaves and a few flowers.
I love that the letters have the diagonal line marks that show up beautifully when painted or colored. Instead of adding the O, I created one from the additional painted die cuts, assembling them to form a wreath. I added a single painted heart to the letter V, and set them aside while I prepared the card panel.
Using an A2 sized card panel of watercolor paper, I scored a rectangle shape on the backside by tracing lines with a stylus and scoreboard. Then I arranged and adhered the individual letters in place within the scored square.
Again, I trimmed the background card panel slightly smaller than an A2 sized card and matted it with a perfectly-sized scrap from my stash of projects envisioned but not realized, also known as the Too Ugly to Use, But Not Ugly Enough to Throw Out card projects!
I love that this month’s subscription Die Set works perfectly for Valentine’s Day cards, but would also be lovely for an anniversary or wedding cards, or any other special occasion!
