Hey, hi! I’m excited to share with you, a card I made using one of Spellbinder’s new holiday products, the Classic Christmas Cut and Emboss Folder! Spellbinders kindly sent me some products to play with and this card was the result!
I began by running an A2 sized panel of Canson XL watercolor paper through the die cutting machine inside the Classic Christmas embossing folder. What makes folders like this unique, is the portion of the embossing folder that also CUTS as well as embossing! Interestingly too, because of the pressure inside the embossing folder, the natural texture of the paper gets flattened out, but the absorbent watercolor paper qualities still remain.
After the panel was embossed, I hand cut around the ornament, leafy branches and bow, then I watercolor painted the bow red, and the ornament blue-green, using Mijello Mission Gold watercolors. I used a Molotow Liquid Chrome marker pen to draw lines over the ornament top, and the embossed details.
I used a sentiment stamp from The Greetery to stamp the Merry Christmas & Happy New Year sentiment. I used a stamping tool and was able to flex a straight stamp on the surface of the stamp door, allowing it to stamp in a curve that mimics that of the ornament itself. I heat embossed the sentiment in silver embossing powder to match the Chrome pen results.
I found some matching cardstock in my scrap bin and glued it behind the decorative openings on the ornament. I used more of the same red cardstock scrap paper to cut the narrow strips that mark the edges of the coordinating patterned paper piece. Once the patterned paper was adhered to the card base, I trimmed it down by 1/4″ and affixed the top of the ornament bow to hang off the top for extra attention and interest! By trimming the card base, I can be sure that even with the bow extending past the top of the card, it will still fit inside an A2 card envelope.
Finally, I used a Copic Multiliner pen to add some sketchy outlines to the ornament and the bow, adhered some flat, silver sequins to the ornament, and with that, the card is complete.
