Well hello there! I have some exciting news to share! Something hotly anticipated since January when they were first introduced, Altenew has just released a set of 36 watercolor paints!! And today the Altenew team is hopping and bopping and sharing the creativity that is made possible with the 36 color watercolor pans! You’ve probably arrived here from Kelly Latevola’s blog, but if you’ve jumped in midstream, you can go back to the Altenew blog and begin there.
Let me not forget to mention first though, that for a limited time, Altenew is offering a FREE Watercolor Pan Case with the purchase of a 36 Watercolor Pan Set (value of $5.99 – to be added to your cart automatically).
The first thing I did when the paint palette arrived in the mail is set up my color swatch. I like to do that because as you can see, the paints themselves don’t show you what you’ll get with the addition of water and a brush. It’s a really beautiful selection of colors, coordinating with the Altenew ink line.
I went a little nuts. I had so much fun playing with these gorgeous, highly pigments paint pans and I decided they all needed to be a card of their own! Seven cards and lots of photos, you’ve been warned!
I began by just sitting and playing with the paints. I created the color block pattern above simply by experimenting with some of the paint colors; determining the intensity of color, the ability to lift the color off the paper after it dries, and how the pigments interact with water. I used the Birthday Builder stamp set to stamp all the sentiments.
On this panel I was testing the blend-ability of the basic colors in the paint set, mixing pinks, reds and purples. Once dry, I repeated the design above, heat embossing the words with silver embossing powder.
Finally, I splashed some color down, blending fuscia, purple and indigo colored paints to see how well they played together. I love the organic way the paints dry on their own. Once the card panel was dry, I stamped the sentiment from Crafty Friends and heat embossed with white embossing powder.
For each of the cards below, I just practiced painting some very simple floral and leaf designs, again, playing with the colors and learning how they interact with each other. I thought about finishing the card panels with some pen & ink outlining, but in the end, decided to stop at the ink splatters.
The sentiment above – “So happy to call you friend” is from the Sketchy Floral stamp set and has been stamped with Versamark ink and gold heat embossed.
The sentiments “Just For You” and “Just Because” are also from the Sketchy Florals stamps set, and are also heat embossed in gold.
“Today I Celebrate You” is a sentiment from the Forever and Always stamp set and is heat embossed with gold embossing powder.
Finally, the sentiment for the last card was stamped from the Kind Words stamps set and stamped with black ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.
I’m so excited for this new addition to the Altenew collection of coloring tools, and pleased with the size, shape and weight of the paint palette, and with the water brush included in the paint set. I love the consistency of the paint after it’s been spritzed with water, and the beautiful way it blends and dries!
Now for the give-away portion of the hop! Altenew is giving away 6 prizes worth $50 each to their store (leave a comment on their blog) and I am giving away a gift certificate to the Altenew store for $30! Leave a comment below and I’ll choose a winner by August 20th.
