Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Sweet Pea Outline Stamp Set Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello, hi! We have a new Paint-A-Flower in the house!! Altenew’s December PAF: Sweet Pea release is the most favorite of all my favorite flowers. Besides peonies and lilacs. But mostly Sweet Peas. Which grew every year in the garden of my childhood home. Those are some strong, sweet and lovely memories, from scent to colors to interesting shapes! But enough rhapsodizing; we have a blog hop to get to! You should be arriving here from Natasha Davies’ blog, but if not, all you need to do is click back to the start of the hop at the Altenew Card Blog, so you don’t miss a thing!

I have two cards to share today, each made using the PAF: Sweet Pea Outline Stamp set. On one card I stamped with black ink and loosely painted in the shapes with Altenew’s 36 Pan and 24 Pan watercolor paint sets, and the other is stamped and heat embossed with white embossing powder and also watercolor painted.

I used a very loose painting style for the first card, “blobbing” down color and paint without much concern for shadows and highlights and all the things that make an image more realistic.

I used more of the same paint colors to fill in the background to suggest depths of blooms layered upon one another, but out of focus. Once dry, I splattered with more dilute paint.

The sentiment is from the PAF Sweet Pea stamp set and is stamped and clear heat embossed. For the frame, I die cut some coordinating lilac blue colored cardstock with the Fine Frames Rectangle Dies and glued one to the front of the painted card panel to place the focus on the middle of the flowers and the greeting.

For my second card, I used many of the same colors (I tried to diverge for a different look, I really did, but Sweet Peas must be Sweet Peas, there’s no getting around it) and used more shading techniques to delineate between petals and flowers.

I created the focal point for the flower stems on this card by painting in a monochromatic green background, and drawing the pigment outwards from the flowers and shadows by adding more and more water.

I added paint splatters again to finish the painted panel, stamped another of the greetings in this stamp set, and die cut the panel with a stitched rectangle die in my stash.
