I have two cards to share today, showcasing the Flowing Foliage Dies, the Rose Queen Dies, and the Mighty Alphabet Dies sets.
I did one of my favorite techniques for stand alone dies with the Hello card, called Die Cut Inlay. I began by die cutting the floral outline die from heavy-weight white cardstock, but leaving all the negative pieces in place in their opening. Then I used inks in pale pink, yellow and green shades (see links below) to ink-blend the pieces of the die cuts. Where one of the larger colored sections came too close to another section of a different color, I did remove the piece from the outline and blended color on it separately. But for the smaller pieces that were too small to remove and keep track of, I just masked off the neighboring area with a Post-It paper.
Then I die cut the shape again from the same heavy-weight white cardstock and replaced the inked up outline with the clean, white outline die cut.
To make the “HELLO” greeting, I die cut the letters from the same white cardstock. I lined them up on a piece of scratch paper with some temporary tape, then ink-blended the bottom of the letters with Coral Bliss ink, fading to Pink Pearl towards the middle and introducing a deliciously warm Sunkissed Ink coming down from the top.
After adding color to the 5 letters, I laid a piece of masking tape diagonally across the word, then applied clear embossing ink to the tops of the letters, and heat set them with gold embossing powder. I used the same gold embossing powder to stamp and heat emboss the “my sweet friend”greeting from the Hello & Hugs stamp set.
I used the same gold embossing powder once more to emboss the gold lines on the background card panel, using the Woven Strips Background Stamp. Then I adhered all the layers onto a folded card base, adding a strip of foam tape behind the narrow sentiment strip.
For card #2, I started by messing around with some alcohol inks on a non-porous paper like Yupo. I used Altenew’s Persian Blue, Caribbean Sky and Arctic, along with some silver mixative for a subtle gleam.
I let the Yupo paper dry completely while I moved on to the die cutting. (Let me add an aside here regarding the Mini Blossom die cutting machine! I used it exclusively for this card because 1). The dies fit it perfectly. And, 2). its just so cute and handy to have at hand!) I die cut each of the leaves from a different shades of blue, green or grey (silver) cardstock, as close a match to the alcohol inks as I could find in my stash.
I die cut the two layers of the “thanks” greeting with word dies in the Seasonal Blooms Craft Your Life kit. I used Hero Hues Arctic cardstock for the shadow die cut of the word and one of the leaves, Lawn Fawn Moonstone cardstock for the darker blue leaf, and silver metallic paper for the third leaf cluster. A variety of shades of flat sequins complete this card!
