Hey, hello! Welcome back for the December blog hop for the Paint-A-Flower release – this month, Tulips! You should be arriving here from the Altenew Card Blog where the hop begins, and if you want to see much more inspiration for this PAF release, please follow the hop to the end. There will be a complete list at the end of this post, for your easy reference!
Remember that the Paint-A-Flower series is a subscription club you can join and be guaranteed of receiving a beautiful new stamp set once a month at a discounted rate.
This stamp style is my most favorite of Altenew floral stamp products, with it’s outline drawing and a single image comprised of a bouquet! As well, it includes a number of lovely sentiments that can be mixed and matched to suit the occasion.
The first of the two cards I have to share today is done in a clean style, where I stamped with Obsidian Pigment Ink onto Altenew super-white watercolor paper and heat set with clear embossing powder.
Then I set about to simply color in the bouquet with Altenew’s Woodless Watercolor pencils, and then to paint with a wet brush. I used a combination of red and yellow pencils to achieve the unique blend of rose/coral on the tulips themselves.
The leaves and other parts of the bouquet are straight forward mixes of warm and cool greens and light/dark mixes for the smaller flowers. I finished the card panel by painting in a background with shades of pencil already used in the bouquet as well as introducing the aqua/turquoise color to add a pop of interest!
I combined two of the sentiments to create the greeting and again used Obsidian Pigment ink and clear embossing powder. Then, because I didn’t want to take anything off the focus on the beautiful bouquet itself, I added a simple strip of contrasting patterned paper along the left side and let that be enough.
For the second card, I wanted to try a looser, more artsy watercolor look so I began by stamping onto Altenew’s white watercolor cardstock and heat embossing with platinum embossing powder, including the mix-n-match sentiment.
This time I painted in the traditional manner, using the Altenew watercolor paint pans. I applied thin, pale color first, let it mostly dry, then repainted with the same shades of paint but with less water mixed in and not attempting to do any blending or shading.
To paint in the background, I “dragged” color from different areas (for example, the purple berry stalk in the top left of the card) into the background, added some water and let it blend with shades of paint on either side. I didn’t worry about keeping separate colors inside the lines, or being careful with depth and shadow, just letting colors mix and blend in a very indistinct way.
Again, only a strip of complimenting patterned paper from my scrap stash was all this card needed. Of course, once dry, both card panels got a splatter treatment because, because!
That’s it for cards today, but not for exciting new products being released! I’m happy to introduce to you, 3 items that I have already loved! having in my stash.
Flower Gel Pen Set – Calla Lily
These come as a set of three, with a flexible barrel towards the end and the variety of colors as shown in the photo. The gel pens have a wonderful fine tip for writing and all three contain black ink. You could keep one and share the other two, OR you could keep all three in a cute little pot, like you’re growing a cute little garden of Calla Lilies!
Retractable Eraser and Refills
These come as an individual eraser and retractor barrel, and you can also purchase a 3-refill pack separately. The eraser itself is tri-cornered which makes erasing in tight corners so much easier!
Stamp Conditioning Eraser Set:
Each package includes three scrubbers for conditioning the backs of brand-new, unused stamps so that they will accept ink more readily and evenly.
