Altenew Build-A-Flower: Dahlia Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi there! I’m back today with some more…..wait for it….CARDS to share! Ha! Surprising, yeah? It’s blog hop day at Altenew and I’m pleased to be contributing to the monthly Build-A-Flower release with these cards. This month we have the Dahlia, and it’s another gorgeous collection of blooms, leaves and thoughtful sentiments! If you’ve arrived here from the Altenew Card Blog you’re right on track! At the end of this post you can find the complete list of the blog hop.

Before we get to today’s cards, let me just mention that there is a monthly subscription plan for our Build-A-Flower set. When signed up, you are guaranteed a spot in our monthly BAF releases and will receive a set each month – at a specially discounted price! ($35.00 →$29.99)

The BAF: Dahlia is another of those stamp sets that gives you the option to layer up each of the elements with multiple ink colors or to simply stamp the outline and color it in yourself. For each of my cards today, I chose option #2, to color them in one of two ways; with the Altenew Artist markers and the Altenew Watercolor Brush markers.

For the two cards above, I stamped several images onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth card stock and a few onto vellum paper. The images on card stock I colored with the palest shades of the Artist Markers in the Red Cosmos marker set. I used the Warm Gray set of colors to lightly tint the leaves and once colored, I die cut each of the shapes.

I layered a strip of vintage dictionary paper over top a medium gray card panel and arranged the die cut dahlias and leaves over top of that. I stamped a sentiment on vellum and heat embossed with black embossing powder. A few coordinating enamel dots complete this card.

For this card, I ran an A2 sized piece of card stock through the die cutting machine with a polka dot embossing folder. The actual color of the card stock is closer to black, but I had to lighten the color slightly in editing for the polka dot texture to show in the photos. I arranged a cluster of leaves with one dahlia bloom at the top of the card panel and allowed one leaf to overlap the sentiment strip in order to visually anchor the cluster.

For my third card, I stamped a diagonal striped background with the Pinstripe Stamp Set and Rouge Ink. I colored the blooms with the Rouge watercolor marker from the Winter Watercolor Markers set, and the leaves with Moss and Warm Sunshine from the Spring Garden set of markers.

I arranged some of the die cut blooms and leaves in a group once again, added a sentiment from the Dotted Blooms stamp set and hand drew a wonky pen line frame around the card front.

As with each Altenew blog hop there are prizes to be won! To celebrate this release, Altenew is giving away a $30 gift certificate to 6 lucky winners! Please leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog and/or Altenew Scrapbook Blog for a chance to win. Three winners will be announced on the Card Blog, and the other three winners will be announced on the Scrapbook Blog on March 9, 2019. As well, I will be doing a random drawing from the comments left on this post, to give away a $20 gift certificate to one lucky person. I’ll announce the winner on Mar 6, 2019.
