Hello, hi! I’m doing some catch up today, and posting some cards that I made with the May Animal House Subscription stamp and die set from Technique Tuesday! With manufacturing nearly halted in parts of the country for the last many weeks, and shipping delays everywhere, I am bringing this to you after the fact, but I hope you’ll bear with me!
My first card combines the May Animal House set called Kate and Karl the Kangaroos, with the Let’s Party stamp set that is part of the currently running Happy Virtual Birthday promo! During this promotion which runs through Friday, June 12, you can enter the coupon code HB2020 to get 20% off your entire order. Happy Birthday to you! And to you! And you, and you and you!
I stamped the images onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock, because I’m at home in AZ right now where my Copics are not, so I wanted to use my Arteza brush pens to color the images and they work best on this paper. I stamped, colored (painted actually) and die cut the Roo and the three balloons in muted shades of blue and green, and set them aside to work on the rest of the card.
I cut off the stamped and die cut balloon strings, then taped black embroidery cotton to the backs of the balloons, then tied them together in a bundle around the tail of the kangaroo. I added foam tape to the backs of these images, then went on to create the card background. I mixed two patterned papers in similar shades with a piece of cardstock. I used a stitched “hilly” die to create the “hills” and adhered them together before die cutting the set with a stitched rectangle die. I added a sentiment from the Animal House set with Versafine Onyx Black ink and clear embossing powder.
I mounted the rectangle element onto another piece of cardstock, of a slightly different hue. I deliberately kept the colors close but not exactly the same for a soothing monochromatic effect. With a different greeting I think this would make a sweet baby card.
My next card uses the May Animal House Stamp Set exclusively. As above, I stamped onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock with Versafine Onyx Black ink and colored the images with Arteza Brush Pens before die cutting them out.
For the background, I started by wetting a portion of the watercolor paper panel with clean water, then adding shades of blue and green paint to the paper and letting it blend and dry as it liked. Then I used an old Taylored Expressions stencil to ink a subtle polkadot pattern over the painted area using inks of similar colors to the paint.
I stamped another of the greetings from the Kate and Karl stamp set with Versamark Black ink and clear embossing powder, and painted in the open letters with the same colors of paint. The kangaroo (with it’s baby Joey hanging out of her pouch) and the sentiment square are both popped up with foam tape on the back for extra dimension.
Be sure to check out the Technique Tuesday page with all of their Birthday stamps and die sets, as well as the subscription page if you’re interested in getting a cute stamp and die set in your mailbox every month!
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
