Hi, hello! Thank you for joining us for the Altenew Texture Adventure blog hop, featuring an amazing release of stand-alone dies! You should be arriving here from Laura Jane’s blog, but if you’ve happened here by chance, you can click back to the start of the hop at the Altenew Card Blog.
I’m sharing projects made with a couple of the die sets being released today, and the first card was created using the Leaf Mix Die Set. I am in LOVE with this set and I know it will become one that I reach for often, for it’s interesting, original, and versatile designs!
I did a couple of different techniques on this card. I started by die cutting some of the individual leaves from Classic Crest 110lb cardstock, and coloring them with a variety of green Altenew Artist Markers.
The next thing I did, was position several of the leaf dies to cover an A2 sized card panel. I die cut them all at once and used a sheet of Glad Press & Seal to keep all the cut pieces in place. I covered the back side of the die cut card panel with double-sided adhesive to keep everything intact and then to adhere to the card base once I reached that step.
I stamped a sentiment from the Sentiment Strips stamp set, on green cardstock and heat set with white embossing powder. I die cut the “thanks” word from brown cardstock using the Circled Greetings die set and a cut the word out of the circle. I repeated that step cutting a second “thanks” from white fun foam. I then stacked and adhered the two die cut words together.
I trimmed the Leaf Mix die cut card panel slightly narrower than A2 size and adhered it to a card base, allowing room for a narrow strip of patterned paper and matching green cardstock to finish off the left hand side. Then I positioned the remaining elements and adhered them to the card front.
My next two cards are created using the Simple Nesting Flowers Layering Die Set. I wanted to use a wide assortment of patterned paper from my stash so I just started die cutting all the shapes and sizes of flowers and leaves. I quickly realized that by using multi-colors and patterned papers I would lose some of the shape definition, so I then used a fine-tip multi-liner pen to add stitching lines around all of the shapes, reminiscent of stitched appliqué quilting. Yes, that took some time, but I was listening to an audio book and it was soothing and therapeutic time!
For my first card, I die cut a card front from 110lb white cardstock using the Circled Greetings Hello Die, then die cut three more layers to stack behind for some interesting dimension.
Once the “hello” layers were adhered together, I tucked a few of the smaller floral die cuts behind the hello and adhered them in place. Then I could glue all the layers as one piece to a folded card base. I stamped a greeting from the Hello & Hugs stamp set on black cardstock and heat set with white embossing powder and glued that onto the top layer of hellos.
My second card is made up of more of the same stitched, die cut flowers and leaves, arranged in a flower-bouquet fashion on a piece of subtly patterned blue check paper. I used a combination of large and small flowers for visual interest and adhered them to the card front. Since the work of die cutting and pen-stitching was done, it was a quick and easy matter to arrange and adhere them to the card panel.
I die cut a black hello layer and a shadow layer from white cardstock using the dies in the Hello & Hugs stamp die set. I adhered the greeting over-top of the flower arrangement and, recognizing the busy-ness of the mixed patterns, decided against any further embellishments!
