Hi, hello! Welcome to the Altenew Color Therapy Blog Hop! You are probably arriving here from the Altenew Card Blog where the hop begins, and if not, simply click back to see what you’ve missed!
As the name of the hop implies, coloring can be therapeutic in this strange, confusing and harried world, no matter if it’s with pencil, marker, paint or any other medium. We want to encourage you to practice some self care by picking up some coloring utensils and giving yourself permission to disconnect, zone out, or hyper-focus. Whatever it is that coloring does for you! And to help you do that, we each along the hop, have some examples using Altenew tools and mediums to inspire you.

For my card today I chose the Exotic Blooms Marker Coloring Book with it’s lovely smooth paper and wide variety of delicate blooms as only Altenew can design them!
I used the Hawaiian Shores Brush Pens to color the peony (?) I think it’s a peony….I’m pretty sure. I wanted to experiment with color blending and in so doing, I discovered how transparent the shading of colors beside and overtop one another can be!
My technique for coloring was to use the waterbased pens to color in one petal or leaf at a time, laying down the darkest shades in the shadowed crevices and using a colorless waterbased marker, like the ones from Tombow or Dove, to blend the color out to the lighter, brighter areas.
On some flower petals I blended violet with the pink and on others, I blended yellow or coral with the darker red.
On the leaves I added pink, lavender, turquoise and yellow to the basic green leaf color. I did that by coloring most of the leaf with a light shade of green, then scribbling the other marker colors onto a paint palette and picking up a little bit of the other colors with the colorless water-based blending marker and coloring overtop of the green, producing another shade altogether. This technique produces the most delicious, and ethereal (if unrealistic, but who’s got time for realism?) color blends!
Once finished with the coloring, I trimmed the coloring panel to slightly smaller than A2 size and stamped with a greeting from another stamp set, finishing off with some flat clear sequins. I matted the colored panel with a beautiful sea-foam green shade of solid cardstock before adhering everything to a folded card base.
I hope this encourages you to pick up some waterbased coloring pens and play with either some stamped images or ones from the Altenew coloring books, or even draw your own designs if you want! Please link your projects on social media so we can give you some love! Your next stop on the hop is Jaycee Gaspar’s blog, but before going, be sure to check out the giveaway being promoted below.
